For AEFL week, we have been sharing our top five resources throughout the week! For our final resource, we’re sharing the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Adult Foundational Education brief! This BRAND NEW brief emphasizes the critical need to focus on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). As in all areas of education, these concepts help shape adult foundational education (AFE), with services that aim to improve literacy, numeracy, language, digital and other core skills.
This brief sheds light on DEIA conditions, opportunities, and challenges as they manifest in AFE programs. For example, inequity in funding to AFE programs is just one concern: Limited options mean that learners may be limited in the range of learning opportunities they can access. DEIA impact us all - whether in formal education programs or not.
